Let's look at the top 3 asked questions that our customers ask us about their septic systems.   1. What Takes Place During a Septic Pumping? This is a great question! If you're suspecting an issue with your residential septic system, you should call a septic service immediately. Once the technician arrives, he will locate your septic tank. After locating, he will dig the top off the tank and pump the entire septic tank down. When he is done pumping, he will ensure everything is running and flowing back properly, then cover the lid back up.  2. How Do I Know I Need My Septic Tank Pumped? There are several signs that will indicate your tank is needing to be pumped, which can be helpful, but can also mean it needed to be done months prior. We wrote a very detailed blog post on this topic a while back and it is worth a read if you would like additional information on this subject. However, the answer in short is as follows:1. Water build up in your yard.2. Slow draining pipes.3. Foul smells coming from your toilet or drains.4. Backups in your home.5. A section of considerably healthy grass in comparison to your other grass.6. High Nitrate concentration in your water.

 3. How Often Do I Need My Tank Pumped? It is best to have your septic tank pumped out every 3-5 years. Over the course of years, the consistent flow of water from your home to your drain field can be a lot. Eventually, over time your drain lines can become over-saturated from a constant flow of water. This results in drain line failure. Pumping your septic system regularly gives the system a break from all the water that is constantly being used in the home. Septic drain line repair can be very expensive. If your septic tank has not been pumped out regularly, it is almost guaranteed that this will happen. Preventative maintenance is key. We hope this overview of the top 3 asked questions about a septic system was helpful. If you are in the Northeast Georgia area, give us a call or send us an email. We can give you a free over-the-phone consultation, or do an inspection on your tank at your convenience.
